    Bounds onSome Ramsey Numbers Involving Quadrilateral

    For graphs G_1,G_2,...,G_m the Ramsey number R(G_1,G_2,...,G_m) is defined to be the smallest integer n such that any m-coloring of the edges of the complete graph K_n must include a monochromatic G_i in color i, for some i. In this note we establish several lower and upper bounds for some Ramsey numbers involving quadrilateral C_4, including R(C_4,K_9) \u3c = 32, 19 \u3c = R(C_4,C_4,K_4) \u3c = 22, 31 \u3c = R(C_4,C_4,C_4,K_4) \u3c = 50, 52 \u3c = R(C_4,K_4,K_4) \u3c = 72, 42 \u3c = R(C_4,C_4,K_3,K_4) \u3c = 76, and 87 \u3c = (C_4,C_4,K_4,K_4) \u3c = 179

    Freeze Casting: From Low‐Dimensional Building Blocks to Aligned Porous Structures—A Review of Novel Materials, Methods, and Applications

    Freeze casting, also known as ice templating, is a particularly versatile technique that has been applied extensively for the fabrication of well‐controlled biomimetic porous materials based on ceramics, metals, polymers, biomacromolecules, and carbon nanomaterials, endowing them with novel properties and broadening their applicability. The principles of different directional freeze‐casting processes are described and the relationships between processing and structure are examined. Recent progress in freeze‐casting assisted assembly of low dimensional building blocks, including graphene and carbon nanotubes, into tailored micro‐ and macrostructures is then summarized. Emerging trends relating to novel materials as building blocks and novel freeze‐cast geometries—beads, fibers, films, complex macrostructures, and nacre‐mimetic composites—are presented. Thereafter, the means by which aligned porous structures and nacre mimetic materials obtainable through recently developed freeze‐casting techniques and low‐dimensional building blocks can facilitate material functionality across multiple fields of application, including energy storage and conversion, environmental remediation, thermal management, and smart materials, are discussed.TU Berlin, Open-Access-Mittel - 202

    MOVING AN ONLINE COLLABORATION MEETING FROM A PC TO A MOBILE DEVICE

    When users are employing a meeting within an online communication and collaboration facility (which brings together capabilities such as video conferencing, online meetings, screen sharing, webinars, Web conferencing, and calling), the process of migrating the meeting from a personal computer (PC) to a mobile device is frequently difficult and may even be annoying. For example, a user may need to repeat the complete meeting process (such as entering a password, confirming a disclaimer, etc.) and their account and meeting status may also be lost during the process. To address the type of challenge that was described above, techniques are presented herein that provide a complete process to solve users\u27 pain points. Aspects of the presented techniques support an automatic, fast, seamless, and secure feature which may be referred to as “move meeting.” Further aspects of the presented techniques offer a user experience comprising two parts (a PC side and a mobile side), leverage a quick response (QR) code, incorporate a backend system, and employ application programming interface (API) calls

    Postoperative anatomical and functional outcomes of different stages of high myopia macular hole

    Background Recently it was suggested that high myopia macular holes (HMMH) and macular holes accompanied by retinal detachment occur in the advanced stages of myopia traction maculopathy (MTM), while macular retinoschisis, shallow retinal detachment without holes, and lamellar macular holes occur in the early stages of MTM. Complete vitreous cortex removal associated with internal limiting membrane peeling is now widely used to treat HMMH. However, it remains uncertain at what HMMH stage patients would benefit most from surgical intervention. Our study was aimed to evaluate the postoperative anatomical changes and functional outcomes of high myopia macular holes (HMMH). Methods Patients were retrospectively collected between March 2009 and August 2011. Before and 1st, 3rd, and 9th month after 23G pars plana vitrectomy, all patients underwent a complete ophthalmologic examination, spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) and MP-1. At each follow-up, best- corrected visual acuity (BCVA), photoreceptor inner and outer segments (IS/OS) defects, and retinal sensitivity (RS) were investigated. According to different preoperative macular hole morphologies, patients were divided into three groups: Group 1, macular hole with epiretinal membrane (ERM) traction and macular retinoschisis; Group 2, full-thickness macular hole (FTMH); Group 3, FTMH with subretinal fluid. Results 43 eyes from 43 patients met the inclusion criteria. The mean age was 60 years. BCVA and RS were significantly improved after vitrectomy; the mean IS/OS defect was significantly reduced. At 9 postoperative months, 11 of 43 (25.6 %) eyes achieved IS/OS junction integrity; 9 of these 11 (81.8 %) eyes belonged to Group 1, 2 (18.2 %) belonged to Group 2. Conclusions Pars plana vitrectomy combined with ILM peeling and gas tamponade results in limited functional outcomes in patients with HMMH. The appearance of subretinal fluid indicates a worse prognosis for surgical intervention

    Improved oxidation resistance of high emissivity coatings on fibrous ceramic for reusable space systems

    To develop high emissivity coatings on fibrous ceramic substrates with improved thermal resistance for reusable space systems, WSi2–MoSi2–Si–SiB6-borosilicate glass coatings were prepared on fibrous ZrO2 by slurry dipping and subsequent high temperature rapid sintering. A coating with 20 wt% WSi2 and 50 wt% MoSi2 presents optimal thermal stability with only 10.06 mg/cm2 mass loss and 4.0% emissivity decrease in the wavelength regime 1.27–1.73 μm after 50 h oxidation at 1773 K. The advantages of double phase metal-silicide coatings combining WSi2 and MoSi2 include improved thermal compatibility with the substrate and an enhanced glass-mediated self-healing ability
